Have a Flood Kit Ready

Water Damage

Flooding can cause severe damage to homes and businesses. Water can seep into basements, crawlspaces, and other areas, causing mold, mildew, and other problems. That’s why it’s important to have a flood kit ready in case of an emergency.

A flood kit should include the following items:

  • Sandbags to keep water out of doorways and windows
  • A tarp to cover furniture and other belongings
  • A flashlight and extra batteries
  • A first-aid kit
  • Non-perishable food and water
  • A whistle to signal for help

Cleaning Concrete Basement Floors After a Flood

If your basement has flooded, it is important to clean the concrete floor properly to prevent mold and mildew growth. After your basement has been pumped out and dried, follow these steps:

  1. Sweep or vacuum the floor to remove any debris.
  2. Mop the floor with a mixture of hot water and bleach (1 cup of bleach to 1 gallon of water).
  3. Rinse the floor with clean water.
  4. Dry the floor thoroughly with a fan or dehumidifier.
